Dream of Ecuador was conceived from a dream I had many years ago. In it, I was flying over the Andean mountains of Ecuador. But in the dream, my hands were so big that I could reach down and brush my fingers through the trees, and run my palms over the grassy terrain. I felt the rocky Andes, the lush green Amazon. Since that time, Ecuador had been calling.
My goal was to convey the resiliency of Ecuadorians, who continue to celebrate age-old traditions through food, dress, customs. The hills are like patchwork quilts, because of the many farm cooperatives that make sure individuals own land. Here is a country of 70% mestizos, with over 1 million indigenous people and 14 languages spoken. Here are the faces that held that history. – Liz 10/25/20
